Course Google Site (Lab work, 40 x 8 = 320 pts)
Over the course of the semester you will work together in a group of 3~4 people to create a portfolio of selected web 2.0 tools. Unlike the course blog site, which presents related course materials and shares content/tool reflection, the course Google Site will build a portfolio of major web 2.0 tools we will explore and evaluate in the course. On the Google Site you’ll find general categories that reference our course content. As a group, you will create entries for each of these categories. If needed, group can create additional categories and/or subcategories as necessary.
Starting from week 5 until week 12, at the beginning of each week, major web 2.0 tools for each category will be briefly introduced by the instructor. Then, your group will discuss the members’ interest and select one tool, and create or improve a tutorial under the corresponding week. Each entry will be comprised of the following:
- Background and description of the tool (what it is and does)
- Essential features/functions to leverage (and how they work or how one should use them)
- Suggested applications for teaching and/or learning (and their pedagogical rationale)
Grading Criteria
(Excellent=40, Very Good=37, Good=34, Average=31, Can improve=28, Poor=below 28)
Your lab assignment score will be determined based on:
1. Each person will be in charge of completing one section, and the focus area will rotate. For instance, one who writes what the tool is and does is in charge of drafting the essential features/functions section in the next week, and in the following week, s/he will take the charge to the application to teaching/learning section. During the group work, members must discuss and confirm regarding the length and key points to be included.

2. Individual work and the overall group work will be evaluated according to the above grading criteria and the two will be averaged out to finalize each person’s lab assignment score. If the quality of group work is affected by member absence or lack of contribution, adjustment will be made to the group membership or grading criteria. However, requests must be initiated by any team member(s). If a person does not complete his/her assigned section or the quality of that section is poor, other members have the right to veto the work or change it and, also as a group, are responsible for informing the issue to the instructor for immediate resolution. Curving (up or down) will take place based on the observed or informed lack or excess of individual contribution per each week.
Quality
1. (30%) The page has a good flow and organization. The content reflects a systematic synthesis of information, interpretation and application.
2. (30%) Useful and accurate information from appropriate sources is incorporated into the section and relevant material carefully selected. All references to readings, web sites, videos, or any other external materials are cited appropriately and, if possible, linked.
3. (20%) Graphics or multimedia are relevant, explained and support the written text. Hyperlinks and other hypermedia aid understanding and add interest to the topic.
4. (20%) Writing is clear so that the page can be easily understood and used as a tutorial or guide for the tool. The presentation of information is objective, balanced and free of bias (e.g. age, culture, gender, race), and images and icons are used sensitively.
